powderJohnson & Johnson has been accused of selling a product that can be potentially lethal to women. Allegedly, thousands of women use or have used baby powder for feminine hygiene. Some have used it for decades. However, Johnson’s baby powder allegedly can cause ovarian cancer in some women.

One study found that women who use Johnson’s Baby Powder or Shower to Showerare 24 percent more likely to develop potentially deadly ovarian cancer. This is because these Johnson & Johnson products contain talcum powder.

Talcum powder is a potential carcinogen. Once in the body, it has the ability to remain undetected for years. It has been estimated that it may take talcum powder eight years to dissolve in the lungs in small quantities. The rate may be similar for the pelvis region and ovaries as well.

Talcum powder encourages cancer cells to grow by triggering inflammation. Talcum powder has often been compared to asbestos, a substance that has caused thousands of cases of mesothelioma and lung cancer.

Baby powder cancer lawsuits have been filed against Johnson & Johnson, claiming that there was no warning about ovarian cancer side effects. The warning label focuses on keeping the products out of an infant’s eyes. Yet Johnson & Johnson has allegedly encouraged Johnson’s baby powder and Shower to Shower use in the genital area.

Some plaintiffs in baby powder lawsuits are women who used Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder or Shower to Shower for feminine hygiene for 40 years. Baby powder cancer lawsuits have claimed they were entirely unaware of the ovarian cancer risks associated with talcum powder and Johnson & Johnson products.

Many baby powder cancer lawsuits are currently underway. Wrongful death baby powder cancer lawsuits have also been filed by the families of loved ones who died from ovarian cancer.

Many baby powder cancer lawsuits have already made progress. In one, Johnson & Johnson argued against the claim of conspiracy. However, the court upheld the plaintiff’s case, finding that there was sufficient evidence of conspiracy to move forward with the case. Many trials have been scheduled for later dates.

It has been suggested that Johnson & Johnson was aware or should have been aware of the baby powder cancer risk since the 1970s. A study was performed in 1999 that examined information gathered from over 100,000 nurses asking about baby powder use.

While baby powder itself it not necessarily the problem, baby powders with talcum powder have reportedly been shown to cause ovarian cancer.
