Readers of Top Class Actions are reporting that they have received checks in the mail this month from four class action settlements.
Nelnet Class Action Settlement
Class Members who submitted claims for the Nelnet class action settlement have reported they have received checks worth about $422, a welcome (and large) payout for this holiday season! These checks were reportedly mailed on Dec. 24:
The Nelnet class action lawsuit accused the student loan servicer of illegally recording telephone calls without notifying the recipient, and asserted claims under California’s Invasion of Privacy Law. Nelnet denies any wrongdoing, but agreed to pay nearly $1.2 million to resolve the claims. An estimated 104,122 Class Members were eligible for benefits from the Nelnet class action settlement.
Trader Joe’s and Organix Class Action Settlements
Consumers who filed claims for the Organix class action settlement and the Trader Joe’s “All Natural” class action settlement are reporting that they have received checks worth between $25 and $40:
The Trader Joe’s class action lawsuit alleged the grocer falsely labeled several of its products as “100% Natural” even though they contained synthetic ingredients. Trader Joe’s denied the allegations but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit. The Trader Joe’s class action settlement was preliminarily approved in February, and received final approval over the summer.
Consumers who filed valid claims for the Trader Joe’s class action settlement were eligible to receive reimbursement for the allegedly mislabeled products they purchased. Class Members who submitted proof of purchase were entitled to full reimbursement for the products, while Class Members who did not provide proof of purchase could only claim benefits for up to 10 items.
Checks for the Trader Joe’s class action settlement were mailed Dec. 23.
The makers of Organix skin and hair care products agreed to pay more than $6 million to resolve allegations it falsely labeled its products as organic. Under the terms of the Organix class action settlement, Class Members who submitted valid claims were eligible to receive $4 for each Organix product they purchased, up to a maximum of $28.
Checks for the Organix class action settlement were mailed no later than Dec. 26.
Riddex Pest Control Class Action Settlement
Readers have reported on the Top Class Actions’ Facebook page that they have received $29.90 from the Riddex class action settlement:
The Riddex class action lawsuit alleged that Global Concepts Ltd. Inc. exaggerated the effectiveness of the Riddex electronic pest control system. Consumers who purchased a Riddex brand electromagnetic pest repelling aid device between Jan. 1, 2006 and Aug. 31, 2013 were eligible to file claims for the Riddex class action settlement.
Under the terms of the Riddex pest control settlement, Class Members who submitted timely and valid Claim Forms were eligible to receive a $14.95 refund for each Riddex electromagnetic pest repelling aid device they purchased.
Checks for the Riddex class action settlement were mailed on Dec. 17.
