Metal Hip Implant LawsuitThe Wright Medical Profemur Total Hip System is allegedly prone to fail earlier than expected or marketed thanks to an alleged design defect, metal hip implant lawsuits claim.

Not only does the metal on metal hip implant not last as long as estimated, it also injures the patients implanted with the device and burdens them with thousands of dollars’ worth of medical care and procedures, the hip replacement lawsuits have alleged.

Most traditional metal-on-metal hip implants are designed to last about a decade before a patient is expected to undergo hip revision surgery and receive an additional hip replacement implant.

However, this does not appear to be the case with the Wright Profemur hip implant product. According to metal hip implant lawsuits by various hip implant consumers, they allegedly experienced extreme pain, complications from excessive metal ions in their bloodstream, and have required hip early revision surgeries because of a Wright Profemur hip replacement product’s early failure.

Wright has been hit with several hip implant lawsuits over the last year, alleging their Profemur Total Hip Systems contain a design defect that makes the hip replacement product severely dangerous. According to medical reports and hip implant lawsuits, the femoral stem of the Wright hip implant is prone to fracturing, fretting, breaking, degrading, and totally failing only a few months or years after the initial hip replacement surgery.

Wright Profemur Hip Replacement Failure Side Effects

Wright Medical Technology Inc. has designed, manufactured, and sold joint implants like their Profemur hip replacement system since 1950. It is estimated that 60 percent of this Tennessee-based medical manufacturer’s sales are produced by the their hip and knee replacement products.

While Wright has experienced limited success with its ceramic-on-ceramic hip and joint replacement products, the Profemur Total Hip System, which is a metal-on-metal hip implant, has been quite popular in the hip replacement market, though it has recently been hit with major hip replacement lawsuits for allegedly failing early and causing personal injury to hip implant consumers.

The Wright Profemur hip implant is designed in such a way that the femoral neck can be adjusted to correspond with the patient’s leg length before implantation to create a unique and comfortable fit for the hip replacement consumer.

However, because of the Wright hip implant’s adjustable modular femoral neck, the stem is prone to bending, which leads to increased product deterioration and a higher chance of hip replacement failure.

Some hip implant side effects that may indicate that a patient’s Wright Profemur hip replacement implant contains a design defect include:

  • Sudden and inexplicable hip pain
  • Consumer’s inability to walk or stand
  • Loosening of the Profemur hip implant
  • Hip replacement failure
  • Need for additional hip revision surgeries

Many patients who claim their Wright hip replacement product failed early have filed Wright hip replacement lawsuits or have joined existing Wright hip implant class action lawsuits.
