Lennox-Air-Conditioning

A class action settlement has been reached in the Lennox air conditioning class action lawsuit, which alleged that Lennox Industries Inc. knowingly sold air conditioning and heat pump units with defectively manufactured condenser coils (also known as a white coil).

According to Lennox, the coils were made with aluminum and coated with polyester without the company’s knowledge. Lennox claims that the coils should have been coated with epoxy or acrylic, not polyester, which is what allegedly caused the coils to corrode and turn white prematurely.

The plaintiffs of the Lennox air conditioning class action lawsuit claim that the presence of the white coil in a Lennox air conditioning or heat pump system cased them to use more energy than what was marketed to consumers, an alleged violation of Florida laws.

Lennox denies all wrongdoing in the air conditioning class action lawsuit, but has decided to settle in order to avoid further court and attorney expenses, as well as the uncertainty future litigation.

Are there going to be any law suites for Texas Homes owners. I bought my home in 2014. I have had issues with my coil as well, this last time my coil is out and no replacement due to manufacture back order. So I have had no AC since May. The coil is not supposed to be here until Sept 14. Then I will be paying about $1200. I live in Houston Texas?

    My system is horrible.

  3. TOM says:

In reading your situation, did your dealer ever talk to you about an additive that needed to be added to the a/c? If you have been changing txv valves or coils, this additive may be needed to stop the valve from freezing up.This is an industry problem for most a/c systems from around 3 ton down.

My wife and I are seniors and are living on a limited income. We had a new Lennox AC installed (to replace an original Lennox unit) in 2005 and we are on our 4th condenser coil which have all had factory defects and leaks. I have paid more than $10,000.00 in repairs and replacements since 2005. I was never notified about a class action suit filed against Lennox for this exact problem (Abott vrs Lennox Industries, Inc.) and have suffered financially because of it. As I write this, I am looking at replacing another condenser coil (same unit) or die of heat exhaustion as (again) all of the freon has leaked out through the faulty coil. Is there ANY recourse for this issue? I have all documentation…Lennox gives me the run-around and my dealer says he is helpless.
