AndroGel side effectsA married couple from Washington State has filed a testosterone product lawsuit against AbbVie, the makers of AndroGel. Their testosterone gel lawsuit joins others in alleging that testosterone products are dangerous and can cause blood clot related problems.

Plaintiffs Wayne and Judy MacLean filed the testosterone product lawsuit, alleging that Mr. MacLean took AndroGel and suffered serious health consequences from it.

According to the text of the MacLeans’ low-t drug lawsuit, Mr. MacLean began to take AndroGel in January 2013. His physicians prescribed the drug after Mr. MacLean asked them about the drug after seeing an advertisement about low-T drugs. His testosterone products lawsuit states that he used the drug as prescribed and directed.

In February 2014, after just a year of using AndroGel, Mr. MacLean was rushed to the hospital with chest pains. Physicians had to perform emergency heart surgery to correct a type of heart attack caused by a blood clot sticking in the blood vessels that feed the heart.

The MacLeans’ testosterone product lawsuit holds that Mr. MacLean’s heart attack was the direct result of his using AndroGel. To support this allegation, their testosterone product lawsuit cites the fact that some of the earliest clinical trials of AndroGel revealed potentially dangerous changes in blood chemistry.

Specifically, it was found that roughly one in 10 patients experience a significantly elevated hematocrit levels, which indicate that blood is getting more viscous and more likely to clot when it’s not supposed to.

Additionally, epidemiological studies have found that men taking low-T drugs like AndroGel experience an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and other blood clot-related problems.

The MacLeans’ testosterone products lawsuit further alleges that in spite of this danger, companies like AbbVie engaged in an aggressive marketing campaign to promote their products for profit.

The MacLeans’ AndroGel lawsuit cites the fact that AbbVie and others have spent millions aggressively promoting the drug, including producing direct-to-consumer advertisements like the ones that convinced Mr. MacLean to “talk to his doctor about low-T.”

Allegedly, this marketing campaign has generated billions for the company, and quadrupled the number of predicted low-T drug patients.

The MacLeans’ testosterone products lawsuit seeks to recoup the cost of medical care, past and present, stemming from the myocardial infarction suffered by Mr. MacLean. The lawsuit also seeks to recoup the cost of the drug, court costs, and punitive damages.

The Testosterone Product Lawsuit is Wayne MacLean, et al. v. AbbVie Incorporated, et al., Case No. 1748, filed within the larger testosterone products MDL, In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.
