A Tylenol liver failure lawsuit was filed by an Oklahoma woman who alleges Extra Strength Tylenol and Tylenol PM caused serious and permanent injuries to her liver.

In September 2011, plaintiff Stephanie Henson was taken to the hospital after taking Tylenol, her Tylenol liver damage lawsuit said. Diagnostic testing revealed that Henson was suffering from acute liver failure.

Henson has to be treated regularly for the resulting liver damage, can’t work, and has accumulated large medical bills, the Tylenol side effects lawsuit says. Her lawsuit alleges Tylenol’s manufacturers did not indicate the potential side effect, and therefore she could not have known she was at such a risk.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that Tylenol and other drugs with acetaminophen could be causing liver damage or liver failure in those who use the medication. After Henson became aware of this warning, she filed her Tylenol liver damage lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and McNeil Consumer Healthcare.

The Tylenol lawsuit accuses the companies of negligence, false advertising, concealing information, and misrepresenting a product.

The Tylenol Liver Damage Lawsuit is Stephanie Henson v. McNeil-PPC Inc., Case No. 2:13-cv-01931-LS, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

For decades, Tylenol has been the painkiller of choice in the United States. It is used for many other purposes, including reducing fevers. Tylenol remains one of the most popular drugs and is considered one of the most essential drugs in the country.

However, liver damage side effects have been reported as early as 1994, with Extra Strength Tylenol being blamed for causing acute liver failure and death. After injury reports reached continued to rise, the FDA ordered Johnson & Johnson to reduce the amount of acetaminophen in Tylenol.

In October 2013, Johnson & Johnson was forced to update Tylenol’s warning label to include potential liver damage. Nearly 1,600 liver failure reports, 450 deaths, and 56,000 emergency room visits are linked to acetaminophen overdose each year.
