Skechers Class Action Settlement Deadline Looms

UPDATE: Skechers Toning Shoes Settlement checks were mailed July 12, 2013.

The deadline to file a claim for the $40 million Sketchers class action lawsuit settlement is rapidly approaching. If you purchased Skechers Shape-Ups, Tone-Ups, Resistance Runners or Trainers from 2008 to 2012, you have until April 18, 2013 to file a claim to receive up to $80 from the class action settlement.

If approved, the Sketchers toning shoe settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the company misrepresented the fitness benefits of wearing so-called “toning” shoes with rocker bottoms.

Skechers denies any wrongdoing, but has agreed to establish a $40 million class action lawsuit settlement fund to pay out refunds to consumers and resolve the litigation.

The following shoes are covered by the settlement:

Skechers Shape-ups rocker bottom shoes
Skechers Resistance Runner rocker bottom shoes
Skechers Shape-ups Toners/Trainers
Skechers Tone-ups with podded outsoles
Skechers Tone-ups non-podded sandals
Skechers boots
Skechers clogs
Skechers trainers (Tone-ups, non-podded sole)

Consumers who purchased these shoes between August 1, 2008 and August 13, 2012 can receive the following cash refunds:

$40 – $80 for Shape-ups
$27 – $50 for podded sole shoes
$20 – $40 for Tone-ups (non-podded sole)
$42 – $80 for Resistance Runners

All claims must be submitted online at www.SkechersSettlement.com or postmarked no later than April 18, 2013.

Claims will not be paid until the settlement is given final approval by the Court, which won’t happen until the end of March 2013, at the earliest. If it is approved, it may take several months to review claims and get checks in the mail. Payment may be further delayed by appeals. The Settlement Administrator estimates that checks will be mailed late summer 2013.

I purchased 6 pairs of sketchers. I was not aware of this law suit. Can I still get a refund for these shoes as I don’t wear them and have knee problems due to them?

From the web site (for those who do not know how to click links):

    “Notice: May 13, 2013

The settlement was given final approval on May 13, 2013. It will likely be late summer before checks are issued. Please check back for updates.

Please note the claims deadline was April 18, 2013 and claims can no longer be submitted online. Claims postmarked after April 18, 2013 will not be accepted.

Some TV stations are giving out incorrect information about filing claims. It really is too late to file a claim now. The online claims website has been disabled because the claims deadline has passed. “
