Discover settlementConsumers who received an automated phone call from Discover Financial Services are receiving checks in the mail valued at just over $48, according to reports.

The money is from a class action settlement reached in May 2013 over allegations that Discover violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by using an automated telephone dialing system and/or an artificial or prerecorded voice to contact consumers on their cell phones. The TCPA prohibits robocalls and other non-emergency contact to consumers’ cell phones unless they provide express prior consent to be contacted.

Discover denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the 2012 class action lawsuit to resolve the litigation.

Consumers who received an automated call from Discover Financial Services or any related parties between Nov. 30, 2007 and Sept. 10, 2013 were eligible to file a claim to receive between $20 and $40 from the Discover TCPA class action settlement. The deadline to file a claim has passed.

A California federal judge granted final approval to the Discover TCPA class action lawsuit settlement on March 31, 2014.

Settlement checks were mailed to eligible Class Members on July 2, according to reports to www.TopClassActions.com. Viewers are reporting they received checks valued at $48.69 — just over the estimated payout.

Got my check last week for $48.69. Absolutely love this newsletter and site. Have gotten numerous checks I would not have gotten otherwise. Claims I would not have even known about. Discovered quite by accident, as I had gotten a letter in the mail about a class action I was due money from. Used google and came up with this site and several others I had no idea about. A wonderful idea. Thanks “topclassaction”.
