The Templeton Rye whiskey settlement resolves allegations that the spirits manufacturer charged a premium price for its whiskey by deceptively marketing it as “made in Iowa” in a “small batch,” when the plaintiff contends it was actually distilled in Indiana.
The whiskey maker agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle the accusations as well as change its labeling to remove the phrases “Small Batch” and “Prohibition-Era Recipe.” Templeton Rye also agreed to modify the back panel of the whiskey label to disclose that the product is distilled in Indiana.
Templeton Rye denied all of the allegations but agreed to settle the whiskey labeling class action lawsuit to avoid the expense of further litigation.
The deadline to submit a Claim Form for the Templeton Rye Whiskey class action settlement passed on Nov. 18, 2015.
