Top Class Actions has been following the Arm & Hammer deodorant class action lawsuit since 2013.

The initial complaint accused Arm & Hammer Essentials Natural Deodorant manufacturer Church & Dwight Co. Inc. of engaging in a misleading marketing strategy by labeling the product as “natural” even though it contains triclosan, a synthetic antibacterial agent that has been linked to antibiotic resistance and other health concerns.

Church & Dwight admitted that triclosan is not a natural ingredient, but argued that a reasonable consumer would not conclude that the Arm & Hammer Essentials product line doesn’t contain any synthetic ingredients.

In February 2015, Church & Dwight Co. Inc. agreed to pay $1.9 million to settle the Arm & Hammer deodorant class action lawsuit and a New Jersey federal judge preliminarily approved the agreement.

Church & Dwight already changed the labeling and advertising of the product to address the concerns raised in the Arm & Hammer deodorant lawsuit.

The deadline to submit a claim form for the Arm & Hammer deodorant class action settlement passed on Sept. 2, 2015.
