Unum disabiliy insurance problems

By filing an Unum lawsuit, a Kansas plaintiff is seeking short-term and long-term disability benefits she had previously been denied by Unum Life Insurance Company of America.

The plaintiff, Casey S., alleges in the Unum lawsuit that she had been provided shor-term and long-term disability coverage at her place of work under plans insured by Unum Insurance.

The Unum lawsuit claims that Casey became disabled, and was consequently no longer able to work. After being forced to leave work by her disability, she filed a claim for short-term and long-term disability benefits. According to the bad faith insurance lawsuit, Unum unfairly denied Casey’s legitimate claims to both long and short-term disability benefits.

Casey states in her Unum bad faith insurance lawsuit that she did everything in her power to fix this problem before going to court, including appealing the denial in an attempt to resolve the issue. However, Unum has still failed to provide the additional short and long term benefits Casey is allegedly due.

Because Unum is both the insurer of the plan and the one responsible for determining the legitimacy of Casey’s disability claims, the bad faith insurance lawsuit claims that Unum’s claim denial was done under a conflict of interest.  This conflict of interest, according to Casey, significantly influenced the claim denial decision, and was not based on substantial evidence.  The Unum lawsuit further alleges that Unum’s claim denial was reached through ignoring relevant evidence, as well as relying instead on biased information.

Casey hopes that by filing the bad faith insurance lawsuit, she will be awarded the short- and long-term disability benefits she was previously denied.

Unum Bad Faith Insurance Lawsuits

Sadly, Casey’s Unum bad faith insurance lawsuit has become all too common in the legal system, as many other individuals have taken action against Unum Insurance for allegedly unfair claim denial tactics, despite allegedly fitting the insurance company’s requirements to be considered disabled.

Many of these lawsuits allege that Unum has caused hundreds of thousands of people with legitimate disability insurance claims to be denied insurance for no reason other than to boost the company’s profit. Unum bad faith insurance lawsuits claim that Unum’s claim denial is not only biased, but also purposeful and malicious.

Indeed, according to news articles and court documents, both employees and former employees of Unum and its subsidiaries have reported being told to deny insurance claims simply to fulfill a company quota.

Many disappointed consumers with legitimate disability insurance claims are filing Unum bad faith insurance lawsuits against Unum Insurance, hoping to eventually reverse the group’s denial of benefits.

More and more people that have been denied disability insurance are coming forward with their personal stories in these claim denial cases. Some injured parties have decided to file Unum lawsuits for bad faith insurance, gaining thousands or in some cases even millions of dollars in settlement money.

If you or someone you know has been denied long-term disability insurance or other insurance by Unum Life Insurance Company, you may be able to file a Unum bad faith insurance lawsuit.

The Unum Claim Denial Lawsuit is Case No. 6:15-cv-04330-MGL, in the U.S. District Court for the Greenville Division of the District of South Carolina.
