metal hip implantAfter suffering physical pain and economic losses from a hip implant gone bad, a Florida woman has filed a hip implant lawsuit against the implant device’s manufacturer, Wright Medical.

Plaintiff Shirley F. was implanted with a Wright hip implant in 2008. Just over a year later, Shirley began having serious issues with the implant. After suffering through painful tests, Shirley discovered that the implant had caused tissue damage. As a result, she was forced to undergo revision surgery.

Shirley’s hip implant lawsuit claims that this event has had a profound effect on her life. In addition to her physical injuries, the multiple surgeries have resulted in high medical bills.

By filing this hip implant lawsuit against Wright, Shirley hopes to gain some kind of compensatory damages for the physical and emotional pain and suffering she has experienced due to the faulty hip implant.

The hip implant lawsuit accuses Wright of negligence, defective design, failure to warn, and breach of express and implied warranties.

Metal Hip Implant Lawsuits

Metal-on-metal hip implants, such as the one used in Shirley’s surgery, are facing an increasing number of lawsuits alleging that the devices are defective and harmful.

Hip implant lawsuits claim that excessive amounts of metal can corrode from various parts of the device, which not only causes the implant to fail, but can cause the surrounding tissue and bone to die.

Metal hip implant lawsuits further claim that the device’s defects make the risk of failure much more likely, which in turn means that patients are more likely to need an additional revision surgery to remove and replace the defective metal-on-metal hip implant.

Once a patient goes through hip replacement revision surgery the problems may keep mounting, as studies have reported that patients who have undergone revision surgery are almost four times more likely to dislocate their hip.

Plaintiffs who have filed metal hip implant lawsuits allege that the manufacturers failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community about the risks of using metal-on-metal hip implant systems. Some go further, claiming that the manufacturers had knowledge of the defects and actively concealed information about those defects from the public and the medical community.

If you or a loved one have experienced complications due to a metal-on-metal hip implant from Wright or another company, you may be eligible to file a hip implant lawsuit.

The Metal Hip Implant Lawsuit is Case No. 1:15-cv-3534, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Atlanta Division.
