Paxil Class Action Lawsuit Settlement
By Kimberly Mirando
The Paxil settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, Grair v. GlaxoSmithKline, alleging GlaxoSmithKline (“GSK”) falsely advertised and promoted Paxil as being non-habit forming or non-addictive, and that GSK’s advertisements and promotional materials failed to disclose the risk of symptoms users may experience if they stopped using Paxil.
GSK denies these allegations, but has offered to pay an $8.5 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.
Class Members of the Paxil class action lawsuit settlement include all California residents who were 18 years old or older and who paid for any portion of the price of Paxil while living in California from January 14, 1999 through January 1, 2003.
Class Members of the Paxil class action settlement who can provide Proof of Purchase can receive a full refund of the out-of-pocket expenses they paid for Paxil during the Class Period, provided the total amount of claims does not exceed $8.5 million.
Class Members without Proof of Purchase can still file a claim to receive up to $80 of out-of-pocket expenses, provided the total amount of these claims does not exceed $500,000.
Only out-of-pocket expenses incurred for Paxil will be refunded, including copayments and deductibles. For example, if you paid a $20 copay for a Paxil prescription, you would receive $20. You would not be entitled to receive the amount your insurance company or employer paid as part of your insurance plan.
To receive a refund from the Paxil class action settlement, you must submit a claim form and any supporting documents to the Paxil Settlement Administrator postmarked by October 10, 2012.

My regular Dr. prescribed me Paxil 20 mg to begin in 2002. I developed several health problems, physical and mental and within 2 years I was on 40 mg. The side effects were horrendous, I had serotonin toxicity for several years before seeing a legit Dr. (2019) who has helped me get off of Paxil and the prescription drugs I was prescribed for side effects. I lost my business, my home and my self respect. Although I am no longer taking Paxil I am left with many physical and mental illnesses. It is now 2023, my life has forever changed, my medical bills are mounting and the aftereffects still remain. This medication is highly addictive, mind altering and should not be prescribed by a primary care physician.
In 200 I was issued paxil I was 15/16 yrs old for generized anxiety after I took it I didn’t go back for phyiactei evaluation and so I didn’t get it filled I started selfharming I cut my legs face and arms the marks on my arms are very noticeable I had suicidal thoughts I’ve never been right since then and phyciatric doctor was brought in because I freaked out on my reg doc at the time he seen me asked a few questions and prescribed me the pills . I should have talked toy mom about it first now I’m 34 years old and I stopped cutting because I’m now a mother and my daughter brings me joy but times do come when I’m alone and overwhelmed and the thought of cutting my arms seems to delightful
I was on Paxil and developed a gambling problem .Im sure there are many others out there
Yes Joe, you’re not alone. 2017 I developed a gambling problem, never had one before. My mind wasn’t there if that makes sense. I knew what I was doing but didn’t care one bit. But then I found out that somebody created a second account on the online casino and was ripping me off blind and I didn’t even catch it. I’m very much on top of things, pay my bills, have excellent credit score but while on this drug, I just simply didn’t care. Has changed my life forever.
I agree with all previous comments
Taking Paxill for a number of years now. Two years ago they put a casino in our area. I have become addicted to gambling ever since. I have spent thousands of dollars and can not stop even when I know I have bills to pay and that I am behind on most. I recently have been hearing about other antidepressants causing serious gambling addictions. I am convinced that Paxill is one of them. I need help and am interested in any information related to class action lawsuits regarding this issue. Thank you.
I started Paxil in April 2017 and have had the same gambling problem. Spending thousands online just to get a ‘high’. It’s hard to explain the feeling, knowing that it’s wrong what I’m doing but yet I can get the money back. You’re not alone Robin.
