LeanSpa scam settlement
LeanSpa class action settlement checks have begun going out to Class Members who claim they were victims of a deceptive marketing campaign to buy a weight loss supplement.

The FTC says that it began sending out 23,406 checks to LeanSpa customers who claim they purchased the company’s dietary supplements. LeanSpa customers will receive an average of $160 from the FTC.image (1)

Class Members will have 60 days, until Nov. 29, to cash or deposit their checks. If Class Members have any questions, they may call the following hotline: (866) 621-4156.

The LeanSpa products at issue includes: LeanSpa, LeanSpa with Acai, LeanSpa with HCA, LeanSpa Cleanse, NutraSlim, NutraSlim with HCA, QuickDetox and SlimFuel.

This class action settlement is the result of a lawsuit filed against LeanSpa by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), alleging that LeanSpa had launched fake news websites for the purpose of promoting its acai berry and colon cleansing weight loss products.

In addition, the FTC also alleged that LeanSpa said it would send customers a free trial of the weight loss products as long as they paid the shipping and handling fee, which the company said would be small. However, customers claim they were charged $80 for the so-called free trial.

In addition, LeanSpa customers were also signed up for a monthly subscription, which they say was not easy to cancel.LeanSpa_Check

The FTC lawsuit against LeanSpa was part of a series of lawsuits filed against several weight loss companies for allegedly deceptive advertising practices.

The other companies that also faced false advertising allegations by the FTC are Sensa, L’Occitane, and HGC Diet Direct.

All together, the four companies reached a $34 million class action settlement with the FTC. LeanSpa agreed to pay $7.3 million, to settle charges over its acai berry and colon cleaning weight loss products. Sensa agreed to pay $26.5 million to settle charges over its weight loss sprinkles. L’Occitane agreed to pay $450,000 to settle allegations over its weight loss cream, which is supposed to have a slimming effect.

The judgement against HCG Diet Direct was dropped because the company was not able to pay the settlement.
