baby powder lawsuitA private conference was held regarding baby powder cancer lawsuits in St. Louis recently.

Several personal injury attorney groups attended the conference, which served as a discussion ground for talcum powder litigation attorneys to strategize the best way to help victims and their families.

Each of the plaintiffs involved in this litigation allege that they developed ovarian cancer as a direct result of using Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products, baby powder and shower-to-shower powder.

Much was discussed at the talcum powder conference as legal experts talked about different options to coordinate the sheer number of lawsuits that only seem to be increasing as time goes on. The lawyers shared different resources and experiences related to the subject, and how to possibly utilize them for the talcum powder cancer lawsuits. Several major law firms attended the conference, each of which represents talcum powder cancer plaintiffs who have filed lawsuits throughout the country.

While nothing was definitely decided, sources state that talcum powder lawyers discussed serious options to help streamline the litigation process. This means that progressive measures are being taken to help bring justice to women and their families, who allegedly developed ovarian cancer through baby powder use.

Another topic discussed at the conference were several significant talcum powder lawsuits, with lawyers comparing facts and allegations. For example, a recent case was filed in St. Louis on behalf of more than sixty women and family members who developed ovarian cancer. The plaintiffs claim the ovarian cancer was caused by using Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder products.

The Talcum Powder Lawsuit discussed at the conference was Valerie S. et al v. Johnson & Johnson, Case No. 1422-CC09326-01, in the City of St. Louis Circuit Court.

Talcum Powder Cancer Complications

The allegations surrounding talcum powder lawsuits stem from Johnson & Johnson’s shower-to-shower powder and baby powder products, which contain talc.

While talcum powder has been used as for hygiene purposes for many generations, it has started to concern the public after a class action investigation was launched into the use of talcum powder and its possible link to ovarian cancer. In fact, scientists have been concerned over this correlation since the early 1970s, after scientists noted that talc had similar composition to asbestos.

Over the years, researchers have conducted numerous studies to observe the different side effects talcum powder has on patients. It did not take long for them to discover that it had adverse effects on female consumers. Experts discovered that talc particles behave similarly to asbestos fibers, in how the talc particles embedded themselves inside the patients.

When women apply talcum powder to their genital area, the talc particles enter the woman’s bloodstream and eventually land in the fallopian tubes. After the talc particles become embedded in the ovaries, the particles can stay there for up to eight years before starting to effect the body. The particles eventually fester into cancer cells, which can potentially spread throughout the body. Ovarian cancer can be potentially fatal, and should be treated as soon as possible.

For years, the public has been unaware of this side effect and has regularly used talcum powder for personal hygiene. According to baby powder lawsuits, Johnson & Johnson allegedly knew about this side effect but chose to omit the information from labels in order to protect the market value of their talcum products.
