diabetes-lipitor-lawsuitA Lipitor diabetes lawsuit alleges that a Florida woman, who began taking Lipitor in 2004, developed type-2 diabetes in 2010, which she blames on the popular cholesterol drug.

Among other allegations, Plaintiff Annette J. accuses Pfizer Inc., Lipitor’s manufacturer, of negligent design, breach of warranties, and fraud and misrepresentation.

The plaintiff hopes that her Lipitor diabetes lawsuit will result in  financial damages that can help compensate for her physical, emotional, and financial injuries.

Lipitor diabetes lawsuits like this have become increasingly common after studies noted a potential link between Lipitor (as well as similar drugs) and type-2 diabetes.

In just a few months, the number of Lipitor lawsuits climbed from a few dozen to several hundred. Plaintiffs involved in Lipitor diabetes lawsuits are typically women who allege that Pfizer failed to adequately warn about the risk of type-2 diabetes associated with Lipitor prior to taking the medication.

Lipitor Diabetes

Lipitor (atorvasatatin) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1996, and quickly became a best-selling prescription drug. Lipitor has been prescribed for more than 29 million Americans, and has been a big money-maker for Pfizer.

Following the release of the studies, the FDA issued a warning about the risk of type-2 diabetes.

Lipitor diabetes research has shown that the risk of developing type-2 diabetes is greater for women taking Lipitor than it is for men.

A study published by the University of Massachusetts Medical School looked at records of 150,000 women taking Lipitor over  several years. The study found that post-menopausal women taking Lipitor were almost 50 percent more likely to develop type-2 diabetes than those who did not.

If you or someone you know was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes after taking Lipitor or a similar drug, you may be able to file a Lipitor diabetes lawsuit.

The Lipitor Diabetes Lawsuit is Case No. 2:15-cv-03269-RMG, in the U.S. District Court for the Charleston Division of the District of South Carolina.
