Verizon Wireless Calling Plan Class Action Settlement

By Matt O’Donnell

Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless has reached a class action lawsuit settlement for failing to provide a roaming service under its America’s Choice II Calling Plan. If you subscribed to this Verizon Wireless plan between 2005 and 2011, you may be entitled to benefits under the class action settlement.
The proposed Verizon Wireless calling plan settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled Cowit v. Cellco, that alleges Verizon Wireless breached its contract and violated the Ohio Deceptive Trade Practices Act by failing to provide a roaming service under its America’s Choice II Calling Plan.
Under the Verizon Wireless class action settlement, current and former customers of Verizon Wireless who subscribed to its America’s Choice II Calling Plan between February 21, 2005 and June 21, 2011 can receive one of the following settlement benefits:
(1) If you are a current Verizon Wireless customer whose calling plan provides for a specific allowance of minutes as part of your monthly access fee, you have two choices: If you do nothing, you will automatically receive 25 additional wireless calling minutes that you can use for a period of one year if you go over your monthly allowance of minutes. In the alternative, if you submit a Claim Form to the Settlement Administrator by November 8, 2011, you will receive a transferable PIN for 40 units, which will be valid for 24 months, that can be used to make domestic or international long distance calls.
(2) If you are a current Verizon Wireless customer whose calling plan provides for an unlimited allowance of minutes as a part of your monthly access fee, you do not need to do anything and you will automatically receive a transferable PIN for 40 units, which will be valid for 24 months, that can be used to make domestic or international long distance calls. The number of minutes you will receive depends upon what countries you call when using the PIN to make long distance calls.
(3) If you are a former Verizon Wireless customer and you timely submit a complete Claim Form to the Settlement Administrator by November 8, 2011, you will receive a transferable PIN for forty 40 units, which will be valid for 24 months, that can be used to make domestic or international long distance calls. The number of minutes you will receive depends upon what countries you call when using the PIN to make long distance calls.

Hello, can someone help me out. I got free minutes and used them Internationally with the code. Then I got billed by verizon with for the minutes used. It was an extra $100.00 on my bill. Verizon says they have noting to do with this and cannot refund or take the charges off my account…Does anyone know how I go about getting the charges taken off…and the phone # for Cowit DOES NOT have a live person..no way to contact a live person..It should not be this difficult..Thanks Regina

I AGREE WITH THE ABOVE COMMENTS, I WILL NEVER USE THEM AND THE COMPANY DOESN’T GET HIT IN THE WALLET! AND WHAT HE HECK IS A “UNIT” ? A MINUTE? A CALL? WHAT?

  3. Attallah says:

This is soo darn stupid, I have unlimited minutes and I’m not making any international calls, long distance is irrelavent so what good is this mess!!!! Give me a credit on my bill that’s what would help!!!! I think I feel even more robbed now then before!!!!

  4. Veronica says:

This settlement makes no sense whatsoever. I get “40 units” of long distance. Uh hello? Domestic long distance is no longer an issue for most people who have cell phones. A credit of $2.00 would have been more useful. I won’t even remember to use this stupid thing!

What good did the results from this law suit get? I make sure I have plenty of minutes so that I don’t go over every month. I will never use the extra minutes and the company keeps my money. This outcome doesn’t hit the company in the wallet like it does their customers.
