Frustrated woman having a headache - isolated over a white backgroundPsuedotumor cerebri, which means “false brain tumor”, has been linked to birth control pills and birth control implants, and is not the subject of lawsuits.

Many people suffering from pseudotumor cerebri have begun to file false brain tumor lawsuits against birth control companies for failing to adequately warn of this danger.

People diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) do not have actual tumors, but the symptoms are alarmingly similar to brain tumors.

Though PTC is not actually a brain tumor, it is still a serious condition that is characterized by an increase in cerebrospinal pressure in the skull. The condition, also known as Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) has a number of severe and often frightening symptoms.

Pseudotumor cerebri symptoms include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Moderate to severe headaches
  • Tinnitus or pulsatile tinnitus (ringing in the ears in sync with the heartbeat)
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Vision changes (including blurred, dimmed, or double vision)
  • Papilledema (swollen optic nerve)
  • Neck, shoulder, and/or back pain
  • Difficulty walking
  • Forgetfulness
  • Depression

Treatment of pseudotumor cerebri focuses on relieving or at least reducing the intracranial pressure. Treatment often includes medication, lumbar punctures (a process which removes extra cerebrospinal fluid to reduce pressure), and even brain surgery.

Brain surgery for pseudotumor cerebri involves placing a tube-like device in the brain to help speed up cerebrospinal fluid drainage in the most severe cases.

The people most commonly diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri are women who are overweight and close to menopause. Pregnant women are also at a higher risk of developing the condition. This condition does exist in men and children, but at a much lesser rate. PTC is very rarely seen in infants.

While it is still uncertain what exactly causes pseudotumor cerebri, certain medications have been linked to an increased risk of developing the condition, such as birth control options.

Women diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri, and who have taken birth control medication, may be able to file a birth control lawsuit.

Consumers who have filed birth control lawsuits previously, regarding pseudo tumor cerebri, claim that birth control manufacturers did not adequately warn them of the potential risk of PTC before they began using birth control pills or devices.

These birth control false tumor lawsuits claim that it is the manufacturer’s responsibility to adequately and effectively inform consumers and the medical community of their products’ potential risks, and that in the case of these birth control pills, failure to do so directly resulted in diagnosis of pseudotumor cerebri.

Many people have filed pseudotumor cerebri birth control lawsuits because of the complications they have experienced from diagnosis of this serious condition. Others have joined pseudotumor cerebri birth control class action lawsuits against various birth control manufacturers.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri after using a form of birth control medication, you may be able to file a birth control lawsuit or join a birth control class action lawsuit. A lawsuit may help to partially compensate for the pain and suffering that PTC and its associated medical procedures and costs has caused.
