talcum-powder-cancerTalcum powder lawsuits are  becoming more widespread. Talcum powder, often used in products such as baby powder, as well as other products, has been associated with the development of ovarian cancer.

Talcum powderis useful for preventing rashes and keeping skin dry, because it absorbs moisture and cuts friction to a minimum.

However, women who apply talcum powder regularly on their genitals or in the genital area have an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer. While studies are ongoing, researchers have suggested a connection between talcum powder and ovarian cancer since the 1970s.

In 1971, scientists pointed out the possibility that talc particles could enter the vagina and travel into the uterus, moving through the fallopian tubes to the ovaries. The study noted that a majority of ovarian tumors at the time had particles of talc deeply embedded in them.

In 1982, another study was published supporting this theory. More than 20 studies have shown a similar possibility of talcum powder ovarian cancer since then.

A June 2013 study reviewed data from almost 2,000 women, which showed that women who used talcum powder products for personal hygiene in the genital area had an increased risk of ovarian cancer of between 20 percent and 30 percent.

Despite these studies, pharmaceutical companies continue to call this evidence inconclusive. Johnson & Johnson, which produces a baby powder made with talcum powder, has never put any kind of warning label on its talcum powder products.

Many consumers have filed talcum powder ovarian cancer lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies including Johnson & Johnson for allegedly failing to adequately warn about the potential risk of talcum powder ovarian cancer when using talcum powder for personal hygiene.

If you or someone you know has contracted ovarian cancer after using a cosmetic talcum powder product, especially over a long period of time, you may be able to file a talcum powder ovarian cancer lawsuit.
