Estee-Lauder-Advanced-Night-Repair-creamEstée Lauder has been hit with class action lawsuit accusing the company of making negligent and false claims about its Advanced Night Repair cream. This beauty product, which currently sells for $92 per unit, promises consumers a youthful complexion. The company claims that this product hides and even reverses the signs of aging due to the company’s patented DNA technology.

Several women have alleged that the company misleads the public to believe that a simple beauty cream can actually repair DNA, which they claim would be impossible. While many skeptics would agree, some professionals are not so quick to rule out the effectiveness of these products.
Dermatologist Dr. Jeanette Graf told CBS News that it is actually possible for creams to repair DNA, but specific technology is needed for the repairs to occur. Additionally, Graf stated that these creams could potentially block the damages of aging if the technology was tailored to block enzymes that would normally breakdown skin and collagens.

Additionally, Graf points out that different skin types may react differently with the cream, and that the effects would not happen overnight. In fact, Graf said that even the best anti-aging creams can take years to work.

Regardless of what Graf or other scientists think about these anti-aging creams, the anti-aging cream lawsuit is currently being reviewed by a judge. This class action lawsuit will not move forward until a judge decides who is eligible to join the class action lawsuit.

Overview of Anti-Aging Cream Allegations

In the United States, advertising is regulated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), an administrative agency which prohibits “unfair and deceptive acts or practices in commerce.” Each state has different regulations regarding this issue, but they tend to be very similar to the FTC regulations.

Estée Lauder is one of the many cosmetic companies who target the general public’s insecurities about age, and have brought out their own line of anti-aging creams. Recently, there have been numerous lawsuits against beauty companies in regards to these anti-aging products. In their advertisements, the companies claim that the products can help improve appearance, reduce the signs of aging and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
