Who’s Affected

medication side effectsThe medication finasteride, sold under the brand names Propecia and Proscar, has been prescribed to more than 1 million men in the United States to treat both male pattern baldness and enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH).

Recent studies have linked finasteride side effects to sexual health complications in men, including:

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED)
  • Loss of sex drive
  • Impotence
  • Low libido
  • Inability to orgasm

Drug maker Merck & Co. is currently facing more than 1,240 finasteride lawsuits filed by men who took Propecia and/or Proscar and suffered one or more health complications. Plaintiffs accuse Merck of failing to warn patients that these side effects may be permanent, even after discontinuing the drug.

If you took Propecia (1 mg finasteride) or Proscar (5 mg finasteride) and suffered sexual dysfunction, you may have a legal claim. Filing a Propecia lawsuit or Proscar lawsuit could help you obtain compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Overview: Finasteride Side Effects

Finasteride side effects have been linked to potentially permanent sexual problems in men — problems that Merck allegedly knew about for years but kept form the public, according to Propecia lawsuits.

In April 2012, the FDA announced a mandated label change for Propecia to include warnings about “libido disorders, ejaculation disorders, and orgasm disorders that continued after discontinuation of the drug.”

Before then, Merck had included warnings about sexual dysfunction from Propecia but claimed these side effects would go away after discontinuing the drug. Propecia lawsuits accuse Merck of knowing as early as 2008 — four years before the mandated FDA label change — that Propecia sexual dysfunction could be permanent because it added this warning to Swedish drug labels.

Many men who suffer from these finasteride side effects are too embarrassed to come forward, and some may not even realize that their use of Propecia or Proscar could have caused their erectile dysfunction or loss of sex drive.

A Propecia class action lawsuit investigation has been launched to provide a private, discreet way for men to come forward and share their story to see if they have a claim to seek compensation from Merck for their injuries. You can join this Propecia class action lawsuit investigation now by filling out the form on this page. If you have a legal claim, you will be contacted for a free consultation and learn whether a class action or individual Propecia lawsuit or Proscar lawsuit is best for you.

Proscar/Propecia Lawsuits

More than 1,240 Propecia lawsuits involving approximately 1,500 plaintiffs are pending against Merck in courts across the country, according to an SEC filing from the company on Nov. 10, 2014.

More than 740 of these cases are currently waiting for pretrial proceedings in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, where a Propecia MDL (multidistrict litigation) was created in April 2012.

Hundreds more Propecia lawsuits are pending in New Jersey as a Propecia MCL (multicounty litigation).

Plaintiffs accuse Merck of failing to warn them of the serious and sometimes permanent side effects of finasteride, including erectile dysfunction, loss of sex drive, and other libido disorders. Some of these men say their lives were forever altered by these side effects, and that their marriages and relationships suffered as a result. These men are seeking additional compensation for “loss of consortium,” which is the loss of enjoyment with your partner. Loss of consortium can secure hundreds of thousands of dollars for a spouse who lost the companionship of an injured loved one due to a company’s negligence.

If you or a loved one is experiencing Propecia erectile dysfunction, loss of sex drive, impotence, or other type of sexual dysfunction, the Propecia attorneys at Greg Jones Law want to hear from you.
