Michaels class action lawsuit

Michaels Stores Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it continuously and deceptively advertised its custom framing products and services as being on sale. If you purchased custom framing products and/or services from an Ohio Michaels store between Jan. 1, 2009 and Oct. 7, 2011, you may be eligible for benefits from the class action settlement.

Plaintiff William Henry filed the class action lawsuit against Michaels in 2012, alleging the craft supplies retailer violated Ohio law by advertising pricing discounts on framing products and services, but never actually providing the discount. Therefore, according to the class action lawsuit, Michaels’ claims of a discount with regard to its framing products and services were false.

Michaels denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the cost and uncertainty associated with trial. The deadline to exclude yourself from or object to the class action settlement passed on March 2, 2015.

The Michaels custom framing class action settlement received final approval following a hearing held on March 26, 2015.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Michaels custom framing discount settlement include: “All persons who purchased custom framing products and/or services from one of Defendant’s stores in Ohio between January 1, 2009 and October 7, 2011, during a week where Defendant was advertising or promoting a discount for custom framing products and/or services.”
