Pacific Bell Telephone Company, which does business as AT&T in California, has reached a $15 million class action lawsuit settlement over claims it unlawfully charged and collected late payment charges from its residential landline telephone customers. If you paid one of these late payment fees between 2009 and 2013, you may be eligible to claim a cash award.
The Pacific Bell late fee settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit known as In Re: Pacific Late Fee Litigation that claims Pacific Bell/AT&T violated California consumer protection laws and other state laws by imposing late payment charges to residential landline telephone customers in California.
AT&T and Pacific Bell deny the allegations but have agreed to establish a $15 million class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.
Claim Forms and more information on your rights in the Pacific Bell/AT&T Late Fee Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found at www.PBTCLateFeeSettlement.com.
Who’s Eligible
You’re a Class Member of the AT&T landline late fee settlement if you currently have or had a California area code and billing address, and either are receiving or received residential landline telephone service from Pacific Bell or its affiliates, and you paid one or more late payment charges imposed during the period starting July 15, 2009, up and through April 24, 2013.
The amount of money you can receive from the class action lawsuit settlement will be based on how many total late payment charges you were assessed during the Class Period divided by the total number of fees assessed to current and former customers who submit timely Claim Forms.
If, as of April 24, 2013, you were a current customer of Pacific Bell/AT&T, you do not need to file a Claim Form; the refund will automatically be credited to one of your future bills.
If, as of April 24, 2013, you were a former customer of Pacific Bell/AT&T, you will need to file a Claim Form to receive a refund under the class action settlement. Your claim must be submitted by Dec. 31, 2013.
