MyTechHelp

MyTechHelp LLC has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it imposed recurring charges on consumers’ debit cards without obtaining written authorization, in violation of the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA). If you had a recurring charge initiated against your debit/bank card for one or more of MyTechHelp’s products or services, you could be entitled to a cash payment from the class action settlement.

The MyTechHelp settlement will resolve allegations that the tech support company repeatedly takes money from users’ bank accounts without first obtaining their written consent to do so. Plaintiff Katie Owasu filed the class action lawsuit on behalf of herself and a Class of consumers who were allegedly subjected to unauthorized recurring charges by MyTechHelp.

MyTechHelp denies the allegations, but has agreed to pay $750,000 to resolve the class action lawsuit and avoid the risk and uncertainty inherent in litigation. The MyTechHelp class action settlement received preliminary approval on Nov. 24, 2014.

Who’s Eligible

All U.S. residents who had a recurring charge initiated against their debit/bank card for one or more of MyTechHelp’s products or services from Sept. 13, 2012 to Sept. 13, 2013, and who have not already received a refund from MyTechHelp or had the charge reversed by their bank, are eligible to participate in the class action settlement.

Potential Award

Varies. Under the terms of the class action settlement, MyTechHelp will set aside 75 percent of the available settlement fund to distribute on a pro rata basis to Class Members who can verify that they were charged by MyTechHelp on one or more occasions without their authorization. The remaining 25 percent of the MyTechHelp settlement fund will be distributed on a pro rata basis to Class Members who do not submit proof of purchase.

Proof of Purchase

None required. However, Class Members who submit proof that they were charged by MyTechHelp without their authorization will be entitled to a larger portion of the class action settlement fund.

NOTE: Class Members who received a Postcard Notice in the mail have their information on record with the defendant already and can submit a claim online. Class Members who did not receive a Postcard Notice can file a claim without submitting a claimant ID by filling out a paper Claim Form and mailing it in.

Question: Does My Tech help include AT&T’s Tech support which costs $15.00 per month, destroyed a
PC which costed over $1500.00 due to a wrong program used? If not please tell me how to recover my
loses which not only included the above mentioned item, but also in 2014 two of their Technicians broke a
lamp in my home by accidently knocking it down, there by destroying my router on my current PC.
I had to order the entire set which included the router, key board, and mouse from HP costing over $100.00. The lamp was 15.00 plus tax from Walmart. The original lamp was no longer being sold, (19.00)
plus tax. I have called AT&T several times regarding all of the above, plus E-Mailed them. No response.
The Technician filed a report regarding the breakage.
Regarding the Tech Help I refuse to use due to the Tech while in control of my PC in put errors and a
virus and tried to charge me $274.00 to clean them out. I had to call HP to stop more damage to my PC.
The virus (wall mire) could not be removed by the Tech., this has happened more than once, it costed me $580.00 to have the above removed from the PC, and two laptops due to the sharing of the WiFi.
    Can you help me please?

Small claims court in your community is the best option for you. You don’t need a lawyer, just organize and detail your case and then you can sue ATT or whoever you want and present your case to a judge.

  6. cjd1467 says:

You need a Claimant ID# from a postcard mailed out to you in order to submit a claim.

  7. Sammy says:

This is wrong. You DO need proof. Just to submit a form you need a postcard mailed to you first. I figured this site would have done their homework a little bit better…

… turns out I was wrong.

Thanks for your comment. Class Members are not required to submit proof of purchase, but doing so will help ensure your claim is accepted. Class Members who received a Postcard Notice in the mail have their information on record with the defendant already and can submit a claim online. Class Members who did not receive a Postcard Notice can still file a claim without submitting a claimant ID by filling out a paper claim form and mailing it in. We’ve updated the article to reflect these additional details.
