Volkswagen

Volkswagen Group of America Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that some of its Jetta vehicles had driver door wiring harnesses that did not operate properly due to a manufacturing defect. Class Members of the Volkswagen Jetta class action settlement may be eligible for an extended warranty and reimbursement for repairs and/or replacements.

The Volkswagen Jetta class action lawsuit alleged that certain 2005-2006 model year Jetta A5s were manufactured with defective driver side door wiring harnesses, which could potentially cause loss of access to the power door locks and windows.

Under the terms of the Volkswagen class action settlement, Volkswagen has agreed to extend the warranty to cover a period of 8.5 years or 100,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date on which the vehicle was delivered to either the original purchaser or lessee. Volkswagen has also agreed to reimburse Class Members for the repair or replacement of covered parts.

Volkswagen denies the allegations but has agreed to settle the Jetta class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation. The Jetta door defect settlement was preliminarily approved in May.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Volkswagen Jetta class action settlement include: “All United States and Puerto Rico purchasers and/or lessees of any model year 2005 or 2006 (A5) Jetta vehicles, VIN range from 1K-5M000001 to 1K-6M759703, imported and distributed by Volkswagen Group of America Inc. for sale or lease in the United States of America and Puerto Rico.”

Potential Award

Class Members may be eligible to claim reimbursement of up to $345 from the Volkswagen class action settlement.

Volkswagen has also agreed to extend its new vehicle limited warranty to cover the repair or replacement of the driver’s door wiring harness, and any wiring or connectors that must be replaced when replacing such wiring harnesses. Vehicles must be brought in to the dealer for repair or replacement within 8.5 years or 100,000 miles (whichever occurs first) of the date it was first deliver dot either the original purchaser or original lessee.

  2. DALE EDWARDS says:

We have a 2005 Jetta and were never notified about the problem. The jetta has around 102,000 miles and around 98,000 the wires in the driver door broke. I repaired them the best I could. The problem is gone for now but now the battery drains down on its own, and I have read the wires could be a problem, with battery draining. I have owned a lot of VW’s in my life time, but this is the last.

  3. Lisa Oen says:

I just paid $572.00 I am furious I will never purchase another Volkswagen, it has been disappointment after disappointment !! Buyer beware!!!

I am wanting to know what I can do or if there is anything I can do about getting my door fixed? I purchased the car the first of Nov in 2014, the door has been messed up since Ive had it. I dont understand why there should be a date on when the recall expires, why should we have to pay for the manufactors mess up? Regardless of how long its been. Thank you
