honeywell class action lawsuit

Honeywell International Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that it engaged in illegal conduct that increased prices for individuals who purchased certain thermostats. If you are a California or Vermont resident and bought one or more Honeywell Round Thermostats after June 30, 1986, you could be eligible to receive benefits from the class action settlement.

Who’s Eligible

If you meet the following criteria, you are a Class Member of the Honeywell Round Thermostat settlement:

  • You are a person or business that purchased one or more Honeywell Round Thermostats;
  • You are a resident of California or Vermont;
  • Your purchase was made in California between June 30, 1986 through Dec. 5, 2013, or in Vermont between June 30, 1986 through Oct. 31, 2011;
  • Your purchase was not made directly from Honeywell;
  • You did not re-sell the Honeywell Round Thermostats;
  • If your purchase was made in California, your purchase was not of a home or building with a preinstalled Honeywell Round Thermostat; and
  • If your purchase was made in Vermont, and you purchased a new home with a preinstalled Honeywell Round Thermostat directly from the builder, you still own the home.

UPDATE:  As of June 29, 2016, the settlement website was updated with the following: “appeals have now been resolved and claims payments are scheduled to mail in July 2016.”   Top Class Actions will continue to provide updates as we learn more.  Keep checking back and let us know when you receive a check in the comments section below or on our  Facebook page.

UPDATE 2: On July 14, 2016, Top Class Actions readers who submitted timely and valid claims for the Honeywell settlement started receiving checks worth as much as $36.

Potential Award

Class Members are eligible to receive $18 for each Honeywell Round Thermostat purchased for their own use in their homes, offices or other buildings.

Proof of Purchase

None required. However, if you wish to claim more than two Honeywell Round Thermostats must submit valid proof of purchase for each additional product claimed.

Case Name

Roos, et al. v. Honeywell International Inc., et al., Case No. CGC 04-0436205, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of San Francisco, and Wright, et al. v. Honeywell International Inc., Case No. 201-11-04-OECV, in the Superior Court of the State of Vermont, Orange County.

Case Summary

The class action lawsuits allege that Honeywell engaged in unlawful conduct that resulted in Honeywell Round Thermostats being sold to individuals and businesses at prices that were higher than otherwise would have been charged had the conduct not taken place. Honeywell denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle the class action lawsuits to avoid the cost and uncertainty of trial. The class action settlement will provide $8.15 million in cash benefits to Class Members.
