LifeLock settlement

LifeLock Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it violated California laws with regard to its automatic renewal practices. If you are a current or former LifeLock member and paid one or more automatically renewed monthly or annual membership fees, you may be eligible for payment from the class action settlement.

The LifeLock class action lawsuit was filed in January 2015 by plaintiff Etan Goldman. He alleges LifeLock made automatic renewal offers to consumers but failed to present the terms clearly and conspicuously. Further, Goldman alleges LifeLock automatically charged him for services without getting his affirmative consent to the automatic renewal or continuous service offer terms. The automatic renewal class action lawsuit accuses LifeLock of violating California’s Automatic Renewal Law and Unfair Competition Law.

LifeLock denies the allegations but it has agreed to settle the automatic renewal class action lawsuit to avoid the cost and delay of ongoing litigation. Under the terms of the class action settlement, LifeLock will pay a total of $2.5 million to resolve the litigation.

UPDATE: According to the Settlement Website, checks were mailed out to Class Members on Mar. 11, 2016.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the LifeLock settlement include current and former LifeLock members with a California billing address who were enrolled in any LifeLock protection plan or subscription service between Dec. 1, 2010 and July 24, 2015, and who paid one or more automatically renewed monthly or annual membership fees.

Potential Award

The award will be distributed on a pro rata basis to all Class Members who do not exclude themselves from the class action settlement. The amount each Class Member will receive is currently unknown.

Yeah, I received my check for this settlement of $5.67 and promptly deposited it. The check was returned and my bank charged me a $5 returned check fee! They graciously credited me for the fee when I explained what type of check it was. When I try to call the claims administrator, GCG at 1-888-242-6443, all I get is a busy signal. There’s something fishy about this!

Is this only for California residents??? I am going through this same hassle with Lifelock right now! I was unaware! I signed up for a free trial in the beginning of September. After a week I canceled it, or so I thought!! Suddenly last month I was charged 14.99 for some premium package, after I canceled. So I thought I canceled again—— just yesterday I was charged AGAIN, now 9.99 for some standard crap! I live in Idaho and this is asinine!! This company.
