e-z-rent-a-car

A class action settlement was reached between E-Z Rent-A-Car and Class Members who claim that the company violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) by including the expiration date of their credit cards on their receipts. If you rented a car from E-Z Rent A Car from March 1, 2012 through March 31, 2014, you may qualify to benefit from this class action settlement.

The E-Z Rent-A-Car FACTA class action lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Christopher Legg, who claims that E-Z Rent-A-Car violated his rights under FACTA when the company printed the expiration date of his credit card on his receipt after renting a car from the company.

Under the terms of the deal Class Members will receive “E-Z Money Points,” which they will be able to redeem to use toward a car rental or upgrades from E-Z Rent-A-Car. The amount they will receive will depend on how many times they rented a car from E-Z Rent-A-Car during the Class Period.

Class Members will not need to file a claim to benefit from this FACTA class action settlement. Benefits will be sent to Class Members automatically through either direct mail or email.

In addition to the monetary benefits, E-Z Rent-A-Car has also agreed to discontinue the practice of printing expiration dates on credit card or debit card receipts for three years from the date of the final approval of this class action settlement.

Under FACTA, retail outlets may only print the last five digits of a credit card or debit card number on a customer’s receipts, and none of the expiration date is allowed to appear on receipts. This law was passed to help protect Americans from credit card fraud.

E-Z Rent-A-Car does not admit to any wrongdoing but agreed to the terms of this class action settlement to avoid the costs and risks of going to trial.

This class action settlement is for anyone who rented a vehicle from E-Z Rent-A-Car from May 1, 2012 through May 31, 2014 and who received a closed rental agreement at the end of the vehicle rental that included the expiration date of the credit card used to purchase the rental.
