Wells Fargo Ordered to Pay $55M in Mortgage Fee Class Action –
A New York federal jury has ordered Wells Fargo $ Co. to pay $54.8 million in damages to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging the late fees charged by now-defunct mortgage servicers The Money Store and HomeEq were improper and excessive. The mortgage fee class action lawsuit alleged the mortgage firms, which were acquired by Wells Fargo, improperly charged late fees after borrowers’ loans were accelerated and paid off.

 

Zithromax Side Effects: What You Need to Know – Zithromax is a popular antibiotic that has been linked to several serious side effects, including heart attacks, liver problems or Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS). Pfizer Inc., the manufacturer of Zithromax, has been hit with a number of lawsuits alleging it failed to warn users of known Zithromax side effects. If you or a loved one suffered serious Zithromax side effects, you may have a legal claim.

 

Zodiac’s $3.5M Pool Products Antitrust Settlement Approved  – A Louisiana federal judge has preliminarily approved a $3.45 million pool products antitrust settlement by Zodiac Pool Systems Inc. that will provide benefits to a Class of direct purchasers who were affected by the company’s allegedly anticompetitive conduct. The class action lawsuit alleged that the three largest manufacturers of pool products conspired with Pool Corp. to restrict the sale of pool products to the distributor’s competitors.

 

New Study Finds Additional Potential Lipitor Risks – While several studies and hundreds of lawsuits have indicated Lipitor may have caused patients to develop type-2 diabetes, a new study suggests that Lipitor may also increase the risk of one type of cancer. Interestingly, the increased cancer risk was most pronounced in women, a pattern seen with other alleged Lipitor side effects.

 

Chrysler Clutch Safety System is Defective, Class Action Says  – A class action lawsuit was filed in Oklahoma federal court against Stoneridge Inc., FTE Automotive USA Inc., and Arrow Manufacturing Co. for allegedly making defective clutch systems that were put in some Chrysler vehicles. According to the class action lawsuit, the alleged clutch safety defect could allow a vehicle to start even when the driver’s foot is not on the clutch.

 

FDA Investigating Marketing of Testosterone Therapy Drugs – Concerned about side effects such as heart attack and stroke deaths, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is looking into the marketing and safety of testosterone supplements prescribed to men to boost their sex drive, treat fatigue and depression and other issues. The agency is concerned that testosterone products are overprescribed and marketed to men who are simply experiencing normal signs of aging.

 

Aetna Faces Class Action Over Changes to HIV/AIDS Program – Aetna Inc. was hit with a class action lawsuit by HIV-positive health insurance policy holders who allege that a new rule the insurer plans to implement in 2015 puts their health and privacy at risk. The new policy will allegedly only provide prescription drugs through mail order, unless patients choose to spend thousands of dollars out-of-pocket to get their prescription drugs from a community pharmacy.

 

Study: No Way to Predict Uterine Sarcoma with Morcellation Surgery  – Laparoscopic surgical devices called power morcellators may cause women with undiagnosed uterine sarcomas to develop cancer in the uterus, pelvis or abdomen. There is currently no diagnostic method to test whether or not women have a uterine sarcoma prior to undergoing a hysterectomy or myomectomy. If you or a loved one were diagnosed with cancer after undergoing surgery to remove the uterus, uterine fibroids, ovaries or fallopian tubes, you may have a legal claim.

 

Chevy Volts Have Steering Defect, Class Action Lawsuit Says – General Motors LLC was hit with a class action lawsuit alleging some of its Chevrolet Volt vehicles are equipped with a defective steering system that can cause the steering wheel to freeze while driving, creating a safety risk. The plaintiffs allege they have suffered financial injury due to the cost of repairs and diminished value of their vehicles. They claim they would not have purchased the vehicle if they had been aware of the Chevy Volt steering defect.

 

FDA Warns of Onfi SJS Risk – Nearly a year ago, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that the anti-seizure drug Onfi (clobazam) could potentially cause Stevens Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, types of life-threatening skin reactions. If you or a loved one were diagnosed with SJS or TEN after taking Onfi, you may be eligible to take legal action against the drug’s manufacturer. Find out if you qualify now.

Update from the President of TCA

Good morning everyone! I hope you had a great Christmas and/or Hanukkah. We had a tremendous amount of fun (as expected). Sydney actually went to bed with her slippers on because she told me her feet were cold. I actually think she wore slippers so she could try and catch Santa! For the record, she didn’t catch Santa, but Santa left her a note, ate the cookies she left out, and fed carrots to his reindeer. Sydney was SUPER excited about it. The girls had such a great time! It was lots of fun reliving days of Christmas past through my girls’ eyes. It’s one of the best things about being a parent!

 

On the Top Class Actions side of things, we’ve been busy catching all of the last minute/end of year filings by attorneys. Our writers and editors don’t get much time off because lawsuits are constantly being filed and we need to keep YOU up to date as they progress. They did get Christmas off though.
